Puppy Mills / Internet Puppy Sites: Beware -
Avoid Puppy Mills – Choose a Reputable Breeder
Many pet stores and online puppy-selling sites don’t want you to know that at least 95% of their puppies come from puppy mills—places known for the inhumane treatment of dogs. New Puppy owners often pay a steep price, both emotionally and financially, when they realize their new puppy is sick or has a genetic disorder.
Here’s how to protect yourself and the dogs:
Avoid breeders who produce more than two breeds. Mass breeding is often a red flag.
Stay away from websites selling multiple breeds—these are often fronts for puppy mills.
You should always speak directly with the breeder and be able to ask questions openly.
A reputable breeder welcomes visits to see where the puppies are raised and may offer video chats if you're far away.
Ask to meet the puppy’s parents and request proof of PWDCA-recommended health testing and DNA results on both.
Confirm that both parents have been tested for the "Improper Coat" gene, and ask the breeder to explain what that means for your potential puppy.
A good breeder will want to ensure you’re a good match for the breed and won’t rush or pressure you into a sale.
If you're not getting a puppy from me, I’d be happy to help you find a responsible, ethical breeder near you. I also work with families who are traveling from a distance to ensure a smooth process.
Please—do not support puppy mills. Choose compassion. Choose quality.
Important: Protect Yourself from Puppy Scammers
Please be cautious — do not send money to anyone unless you’ve spoken to me directly and confirmed you're dealing with the right person.
Scammers are everywhere, and they often copy photos and information from my website to impersonate me. Before sending any payment:
Call me first and speak with me personally.
If using Venmo, double-check the spelling and confirm you are sending it using my phone number.
When the puppies are ready, I will:
FaceTime with you.
Send you new, recent photos and videos (not just what’s on my website).
Allow in-person visits.
Unfortunately, scammers have even tried to impersonate me using information from my AKC Marketplace listing. They try to get details about my puppies and contact potential buyers pretending to be me.
To stay safe:
Always ask for fresh videos and pictures—not reused ones from the web.
I will always speak with you by phone and ask you questions as well.
I do not accept Zelle payments.
I will not allow third parties to pick up a puppy unless we’ve discussed it in advance.
Do not be fooled. Always verify. Always talk to me directly.
Let’s keep this a safe and happy experience for everyone.
Thank you.
